Treatments

Treatment length

  • Usual treatments will last from one hour to one and a half hours depending on severity of condition being treated.

Treatment description

  • Your treatment will be tailored around what is best for you and so may differ slightly from the following list, but this presents a general guideline of what first time patients can expect.

    1. Verbal discussion of primary healthcare concern as well as related issues.

    2. Physical exam of tongue and pulse, and including palpation for musculoskeletal problems

    3. Acupuncture for 20-40 minutes. Extremely light stimulation applied for more sensitive and first time patients, and using mild to moderate technique for acupuncture veterans and those that prefer stronger stimulation.

    4. Medical massage for 10-30 minutes

    5. Discussion of herbs to eat, dietary advice, or exercises to practice outside of the clinic

  • Times, procedures, and order of procedures may vary depending on individual patient preferences, nature of problem, and number of previous visits.

How many treatments will I need?

  • Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer to this question as every patient is different. Generally for acute problems fewer treatments are necessary but for chronic or severe problems more treatments are necessary.

  • A treatment plan will be discussed to estimate frequency and number of treatments necessary.

Pricing

  • Adults $80 / visit
  • Students $60 / visit
  • Under 18 years old $50 / visit
  • Under 10 years old $30 / visit
  • The above prices ($20 off for students, $30 off for adolescents/pre-adults, and $50 off for children) cannot be combined with other offers, and only apply to payments received the same day as the treatment.

Recession pricing:

  • If you can prove financial hardship during these tough times your combination treatment price is $40.

Quick-fix/tune-up

Due to time constraints some patients prefer to get in and out as fast as possible, possibly a result of acclimation to a typical chiropractic visit. So this is an option for those of you that fit this description.

This is only available for return patients with relatively minor conditions (aka, something that only needs a tune-up).

  • $30 for 10-15 minute tune-up

Insurance Coverage

Roots of Eastern Medicine can no longer accept in-network coverage. For reimbursement your health plan must include out of network benefits. A discount will be applied to every patient with a plan which covers acupuncture with only in-network benefits.

Verify your coverage by:

  • Contact me at (925) 785-7113, or send an email to ben@rootsofeasternmedicine.com and provide your name as it appears on your insurance policy, your member id, and your birthday.

  • Otherwise you can call your insurance company and ask:
  1. Does my policy cover acupuncture?

  2. Does my policy cover out of network providers?

  3. Do I have a deductible, and if so, how much has been satisified for the year?

  4. Do I need a referral from an M.D.?

  5. How many visits am I elligible for per year, and what are the limits per visit?

Healthyroads discounts

Healthy road discounts work out to about $20 to $24 off per adult visit depending on which insurance company you are affiliated with.

  • Kaiser 25% = $60/ visit
  • Healthnet 50% off first visit, 30% off each additional visit = $40 first visit, $56 each additional visit
  • Aetna same as Healthnet discount (see above)
  • For any other insurance that covers acupuncture, but is limited to in-network doctors (of which I am not a part), your price is $60 per visit.
  • Proof of coverage in all these cases must be presented at time of treatment.
  • These discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts and can only be used in lieu of insurance claims.
