Treatments
How long is each treatment?
- Any one treatment will last from one hour to one and a half hours depending on severity of condition being treated.
What will each treatment consist of?
- Usually, but not necessarily:
1. Question and answer session
2. Physical exam involving looking at your tongue, taking your pulse, or palpation for musculoskeletal problems
3. Acupuncture for 20-40 minutes
4. Medical massage for 10-30 minutes
5. Discussion of herbs to eat or exercises to practice outside of the clinic - Times, procedures, and order of procedures may vary depending on individual patient preferences, nature of problem, and number of visits.
How many treatments will I need?
- Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer to this question as every patient is different. Generally for acute problems fewer treatments are necessary but for chronic or severe problems more treatments are necessary. I will do everything in my power to provide noticeable results as soon as possible.
How much does it cost?
- Adults $80 / visit
- Students $60 / visit
- Under 18 years old $50 / visit
- Under 10 years old $30 / visit
- Insurance: Generally patients pay at the time of the office visit at which time I will provide you with a superbill with all the necessary procedure and diagnosis codes to send to your insurance company. If you are covered they will eventually reimburse you hopefully without too much red tape and delay tactics, but that's what insurance companies are for so expect to feel a little bit of righteous indignation. Nevertheless I got to where I am to day by being more persistant than the most exasperating bureaucrat and I will doggedly send everything they request (which most likely I had already sent them, but it won't stop them from requesting it again) until they pay you what they owe you. If the insurance company insists on paying me instead of you (not likely but possible) then we will work out a different plan for reimbursement. For coverage questions just send me the numbers on your insurance card/policy and I can check to see if I am covered in your policy.
A side note
- Be wary about seeking out 'discount' acupuncture. Not all acupuncturists practice in the same way or spend the same amount of time with their patients. What may have seemed like a bargain to start with no longer looks like a bargain if after 10 treatments with minimal improvement in your condition. This is especially true with recent injuries/illnesses. The longer you wait to treat the condition correctly, the harder it will be to resolve even with the correct treatment. Whether or not you come to me, the sooner you find the right practitioner the greater the likelihood of success in your treatments. This is not to say that no one ever over charges for the service they provide, so just use your best judgment.
